After leaving Top Sellers, I spent an uneventful ten months compiling puzzle magazines and
reprint comics for an obscure publisher in the Croydon area, quietly climbing the walls. It was my old boss Dez Skinn who came to the rescue. He called me up and asked me to join him at the newly revamped Marvel UK operation, where I would once again work as his assistant, riding shotgun on the company's monthly magazines. These included
Starburst, a science fiction movie magazine which started life as an independent published by Dez himself,
Conan the Barbarian and
Rampage magazine which featured a more mature version of The Hulk.
Dez's assistant on Marvel's weekly comics was Richard Burton, who had enjoyed a long and successful run as editor/publisher of
Comic Media News, a sort of forerunner to Dez's current
Comics International newszine.
