Putting sexy girls on the front covers of comics never did any harm - except in the morally strait-jacketed day of the 1950s. In fact, a whole sub-genre has arisen in comics labelled "good-girl" art. | Examples of good-girl art can be found as far back as the 1940s. Even Wonder Woman was drawn as cheesecake back in the 1940s. Though her image changed during the 1960s, the sexier Wonder Woman was back in the 1990s | If anything, sexy villainesses are even more popular than heroines. Batman nemesis Catwoman has featured in her own comic since 1993 - though Michelle Pfeiffer's portrayal in the movie might have had something to do with that. | ||||
Phantom Lady 17 (1948) The late great Matt Baker certainly had a way with the female form. This one touches on all kinds of kinks, but what on earth is Phantom Lady holding in her left hand? |
Wonder Woman 63 (1992) Brit uber-artist Brian Bolland also knows his way around a pretty girl and this version of Wonder Woman is a far cry from the more politically correct version seen in the feministist 1970s. |
Catwoman 1 (1993) Where do you start with this one? Is Catwoman naked? She might as well be. How this cover ever got past the Comics Code I'll never know ... but I'll bet it sold copies. |
